Rik is interested in exploring the structure and architecture of social media platforms, aiming to understand why and how users turn to different platforms for different purposes. He is also interested in studying Internet policy deliberation and governance issues, especially in the Global South. He draws insights from a range of disciplinary perspectives including media and communication, computer science, science and technology studies among others.
Additionally, he takes a keen interest in social scientific and computational research methods, which has led to collaborations and publications on a diverse range of topics in areas such as public opinion research, media psychology, media effects, science communication, etc.
